Continuing the decades old covenant between Indians and the Labour Party, the Convention was formed.
Spurred on by 75 years of India’s Independence the Labour Convention of Indian Organisations was reestablished to:
Represent the diverse British Indian community within Labour
Engage meaningfully with diverse Indian organisations for the benefit of all
Connect Labour to British Indians and India
Labour’s historical relationship with India and its diaspora has profoundly impacted our world. We reaffirm this legacy and our values of pluralism, internationalism, and unity.
We will focus on:
Representation - close the gap between British Indians and the Labour Party
The UK-India trade agreement - engage with India to foster inclusive sustainable growth & jobs for both countries
Living Bridge - deepen cultural and educational ties between Britain and India
Trusted Medium - engage with India as a partner and critical friend on issues of concern for British Indians
Global Challenges - address the existential issues of our time such as the climate crisis, resource security, and inequality
Harnessing Potential - encourage Labour’s utilisation of the vital economic and social contribution of the British Indian community
